About Me

haji lane in singapore

i am a production designer for tv commercials and film. originally i studied architecture but eventually finished a degree bachelor of fine arts for visual communications at the college of fine arts in university of the philippines. my professor, cesar hernando, a filmmaker and multi-awarded production designer, was instrumental in nurturing and cultivating our hunger and enthusiasm for cinema while in university.

i apprenticed for cannes winner, brillante mendoza, when he was a production designer for tv commercials. eventually he went on to become a director and i designed for his films. i have also worked as production designer for film directors tikoy aguiluz, chito rono, erik matti, lyle sacris, jerrold tarog, pepe diokno, and bradley liew.  i had made good use of my knowledge and skills learned in fine arts, architecture, interior design plus my interest in filmmaking into my work as a designer.

ive been acknowledged in the young critics’ circle, the Urian, the Film Academy of the Philippines, the cinemalaya award giving bodies for best production design.  i, along with partner carlo tabije, was nominated at the 10th asian film festival academy for our work in heneral luna. the film was also nominated for best costume design for carlo tabije.  in between projects, i take time to watch more films and write about production design and other things that interest me in this wordpress blog.
