river office

cute office design! by japanese designer nendo, taking inspiration from the river, probably the meguro river in tokyo where the office is located. the design was meant to separate without isolating people going through the office, stepping in the lowest sagging portions of the walls to get through the other sections. things would appear to come out and ebb with the waves.

the thank you girls review

i missed the opportunity to work as designer for this movie since it was shooting the same time with serbis. also, i was held back by tvc work from leaving for mindanao ergo i missed working on a fantabulous movie by emotistic centerstage colleague, charliebebs gohetia

yesterday was the thank you girls’ premiere at the UP and carlo and i headed for the theater on the invitation by writer-editor-director bebs.  we of course expected the tongue-in-cheek comedy fished out from gay beauty pageants and we were taken in for a roll!

haskang grabe ka-juker! bibo gyud siya, never laughed so hard at a movie in a long time. the great part of this film was how natural the dialogue, both scripted and impromptu, twittered out of the cast’s lip-shimmered mouths. of course in the beginning it takes a bit of time to get used to bisayan gay linggo. hearing them speak in their native tongues and acting out along the billboard-less highways of mindanao, the bantering and witty exchanges felt right at home as if we’ve worn red satin gowns everyday of our lives. lighting and sound technicals aside, this movie is fantabulous from fake diamond tiara to flattened-out yellow spartan flipflops.

quantum of solace

crazy what you wish

taken from a forwarded email:

A man was sick and tired of going to work every day while his wife stayed home. He wanted her to see what he went through so he prayed: “Dear Lord: I go to work every day and put in 8 hours while my wife merely stays at home. I wa nt her to know what I go through, so please allow her body to switch with mine for a day. Amen.”

God, in his infinite wisdom, granted the man’s wish.

The next morning sure enough, the man awoke as a woman.

He arose, cooked breakfast for his mate, awakened the kids, set out their school clothes, fed them breakfast, packed their lunches, drove them to school, came home and picked up the dry cleaning, took it to the cleaners and stopped at the bank to make a deposit. Went grocery shopping, then drove home to put away the groceries, paid the bills and balanced the checkbook. He cleaned the cat’s litter box and bathed the dog.

Then it was already 1 P.M. and he hurried to make the beds, do the laundry, vacuum, dust, and sweep and mop the kitchen floor. Ran to the school to pick up the kids and got into an argument with them on the way home. Set out milk and cookies and got the kids organized to do their homework, Then set up the ironing board and watched TV while he did the ironing.

At 4:30 he began peeling potatoes and washi ng vegetables for salad, breaded the pork chops and snapped fresh beans for supper. After supper, he cleaned the kitchen, ran the dishwasher, folded laundry, bathed the kids, and put them to bed.

At 9 P.M. he was exhausted and, though his daily chores weren’t finished, he went to bed where he was expected to make love, which he managed to get through without complaint.

The next morning, he awoke and immediately knelt by the bed and said, Lord, I don’t know what I was thinking. I was so wrong to envy my wife’s being able to stay home all day. Please, oh please, let us trade back.”

The Lord, in his infinite wisdom, replied, “My son, I feel you have learned your lesson and I will be happy to change things back to the way they were, you’ll just have to wait nine months, though. You got pregnant last night.”

creamsilk hair dare

posting work on creamsilk’s hair dare commercial with toni gonzaga. i had shared billing on design with philip lu, an architect by profession. im glad though that the original set design changed and my idea for the circular design became the final set constructed. when the structure slowly materialized, i realized it looked a lot like the office of mode magazine in ugly betty hehe took us a long time though to peg in the color of the set, direk af had to do consultation with both agency and client a lot of times.

costume for both toni and the driving girl wasnt mine though. madugo ang issues with costumes so im thrilled i didnt have to do that. and funny ang mga fans ni toni gonzaga coz the behind-the-scenes vid i posted on youtube drew a lot of comments re the driving girl yawning in front of their idol. and then somebody posts a rebuttal. funny, just check out the comments on youtube.

tvc directed by af benaza for revolver studios, dop boy yniguez.  assist dir christine oblando.  prod design benjamin padero, philip lu. this was the first tvc shot in the new revolver studio in evangelista makati. so this makes for a breakthrough of sorts for the prod house, and im happy to be part of it 😀

the dark knight

im still hyperventilating. i give you 5 FUCKING STARS AND A GAZILLION F#%@#(*_#NG GALAXIES. THIS FILM IS F#$*@)(*#$( GENIUS !!!!

carlo and i watched the film too late in its run. both of us felt like nolan had a certain “indie” independence to his cut, the film was very personal and so rooted in a gotham kind of realism (i wouldnt want to live there in that sense). and they didnt censor out the pervading darkness and gloom. in fact, all batman movies should have been this dark!

ultimately, the success of the film was how gotham city was made real, the chaos made by its psychotic residents, the run-ins with the gotham police personified by the fantastic gary oldman, and the resident rodent billionare struggling in its unhealthy balance of good and evil. ive loved tim burton’s version but nolan’s effect is immediate and spot-on.

and gyllenhall was great. katie holmes’ quirky dawson-creeky face was disturbing and it gets in the way of things. maggie’s turn was just right. if at all, i prefer her to katie anyday.

dont even make me start on heath ledger. i dont think i have enough space or energy to fully comprehend what he has done. he is GENIUS!!! and apart from being a magnificent actor, he is also a team player the fact that he plays off the other characters without spoiling their star turns (that how i feel anyway).

rest in peace heath ledger, rest in peace
