visited caramoan island in camsur bicol a few weeks ago for a location check for the film. we brazenly took to the 8 hour road trip and hopped on a 1.5hour bangka ride to “shorten” our trip, that eventually got us at casa del roa by 11am the next day, almost 13 hours after we left manila. we then had to proceed to gota beach and get on another bangka to see the islands including honongan, lahos, matukad and tayak.

caramoan is beautiful. too bad when i got back last weekend to start work on the preparations for the film’s shoot this week, i learned that they clean-shaved the island forests in time for survivor asia’s leg here in the philippines in february. so what we saw of lush jungle forests set against the limestone rocky mountains in the middle of clear blue waters are no longer existing.

ergo hindi na pwede pang shoot! on top of that, the weather forecasts tell of thunderstorms and a low depression area in the vicinity and most likely a storm on its way. around 12hours after we arrived on camsur this weekend, we get a text from the line producer that the shoot there is packed-up and postponed indefinitely. and that we had to hurry back to manila immediately. good luck.

  1. haha, well. all i did was board a van and the next thing i know, i was in sabang, camarines sur 8 hours after ! hahaha then we took a 120peso bangka ride to the caramoan port. a jeep was waiting for us to take us to casa del roa then to gota beach. and beyond. 😀 and i didnt spend a single cent (production fund haha)

  2. well, i suppose just the forest floor. they needed it to be a certain length (controlled growth of vegetation) when they start shooting survivor next year. im sure they (i hope) didnt cut down trees in the process 😀

Caramoan was one of my hometowns. I belong to the Obias’ family. I left Caramoan more than 40 yrs. ago. Life then was very, very simple. My grandparents were once mayors of the town. The honor that the Caramoan people gave to my grandfather, Hermogenes Obias, is something that I will always treasure in my heart.

I have fond memories of my childhood years in Caramoan as well as in Garchitorena. I also experienced typhoons and hurricanes and that river overflowing through Caramoan Centro.

May God bless Caramoan and its inhabitants. May He bring prosperity and also preserve the beauty, tranquility and peace of this special place.

starting friday nite the 4 th of july 2008 ; the french television in channel 1, the whole world can see this program all about caramoan for more than 2 hours every friday and this will be for 15 weeks . the game entitled KOH-LANTA and one participant will be disqualified every week. am very proud that the french start again to discover our beautiful country and in fact last year they were in palawan . they stop visiting few years ago because the french journalists kidnapped and were the hostages in mindanao and everyday the press talked about it and especially in television. and biensûre some people looked at us like criminals, but you can’t blame them.in fact they were forbidden not to travel in the philippines at that time. bonne chance!

    My mom is from Caramoan.
Spent summertimes during my childhood alot in that place.
    I love it. Paradise!
All of my relatives are still there to date.
I cannot help but get excited to go back again.

My family & I are planning to visit Caramoan Island…I’m not a party goer person…I love peace & tranquility that’s why I choose this Island.I’m from Bicol hopefully this December I’ll be back in the Philippines…
Those who hated Caramoan were people who themselves can’t appreciate peacefulness in their lives…

Being a caramoanon, I wish to give you tips regarding a convenient way to go to caramoan. If you are from manila, take plane to virac, catanduanes. Tkae a jeepride to Barangay codon or bislig or cabcab in san andres, catanduanes. And from there hire a pumpboat to guijalo, caramoan. It takes one hour only to cross the maqueda channel. Presto, you will be in caramoan.
