Original and Intriguing 5 in 1 Home in Tokyo

i love the concept of this house, though i wouldnt necessarily want to live here. carlo would have a hell of a time climbing up and down those and pogi will have to catch up (but he can climb stairs), not to mention our props and shooting stuff hehehe but i love how it looks ๐Ÿ™‚ย  but this house would be extremely hot in the pinas, given its use of glass windows and low ceiling design. ay hwag nalang. adik nga ako hahaha

REPOST from Freshome.com by Lavinia on 9/25/10

In childhood many of us have probably drawn a sketch similar to the one belonging to the project in the photos below. You know, where you scribble a simple classical house shape and then you place another one on top? Even though this analogy has the risk of minimizing the effect that this original project might have, we only made the crazy comparison to highlight the overall simplicity of this idea and as you know, simplicity is bliss. The Tokyo Apartment building was designed by Sou Fujimoto and features five independent cribs connected through stairs. We really appreciate the uniqueness of this building, the way it contrasts the other neighborhood houses and its overall design. However, having to climb or descend a ladder every time you have to step into another room might prove to be irritating in time. How do you feel about this building? Photos by Iwan Baan

pogi at the punerarya

currently working on a pelikula produced by regal. who’d have expected id be eventually working with motherlily? i know i didnt haha the shoot has been going on pretty well so far. in fact, it’s much better than my own expectations, reservations and fears.

working wd jerrold tarog again, my director for mangatyanan (2009) and senior year (may 2010). rounding up the familiar and equally loveable are DOP mackie galvez, AD/PM bianca balbuena plus gaffer ritchie de padua. if only regal shot their movies with wild sound, sound recordist kulas varela would have joined in the funk, making this the third move we’d all make together (carlo only got to join the team in senior year).

and speaking of the familiar, pogi was able to visit the set on day2, much like how he did during senior year. and this blog is really only about that haha here im posting a phot0 of him with actress, carla abellana. apparently carla loved dogs so i asked that i take a photo of them both. pogi got very excited and started to slather carla with his laway. oops.ย  next time ill try to take a photo of him with the other actors (sid lucero aod gaby dela merced). cheers!

here is pogi tired from the day’s shoot on the trip home. he gets a whole couch on the van while me and my staff are crammed in the other. become a fan of POGI on facebook by visiting his official page and clicking Like ๐Ÿ™‚

CARVED top2 Carved by Naoki Terada

Naoki Terada of Terada Design has created Carved, a new clock with the numbers carved out. Although the product doesnโ€™t appear to be stocked yet, Lemnos, who specializes in Japanese designer clocks, will be the sole distributor. If this doesnโ€™t float your boat, Lemnos is stock full of designer clocks from the typographically-inspired to the, I-donโ€™t-really-need-to-know-the-time-I-just-want-something-cool-on-my-wall clock.

Inspired by ancient sun dials, Kazuo Kawasaki created Hola. It even has an iPhone app.

ron mueck

the boy

once in a while you come across an artist that overwhelms you with the ordinary and inspires you with the familiar.ย  ron mueck is an australian hyper-realist sculpture whose incredible works feature babies, old ladies and the ordinary street folk but in gigantic proportions. he’s crazy awesome! only way to appreciate his works is to look at it.ย  here are a few from damncoolpics.blogspot.com:

You gotta love plumbing fixtures, they’re like Lego for adults with industrial aesthetic preferences, as these DIY lamps show:

ghost photography? a repost

i thought this was fantastic i had to repost it. his pics with the children is particularly creepy. ahlovet! ๐Ÿ™‚

Ghosts now officially exist, thanks to Sergey Larenkov’s computational rephotography via Core77 on 7/30/10

0sergeylarenkov001.jpg

Photographer Sergey Larenkov uses computational rephotography (as shown above and explained here by Wired) to overlay extant WWII-era photographs on their corresponding modern settings. The results are both spooky and stunning:

The shots really do have to be seen large, so check out Larenkov’s LJ page for the rest of ’em.

cold onion rings, alice in gateway and a p300 masssage

yesterday we went to gateway for dinner and a movie. burgoo was a huge disappointment. tim burton’s alice in wonderland could have been more wonderful. i reckon it could have been lord of the rings-ish but the screenwriting didnt soar as much despite the multilayered original material. good thing the massage we had afterwards was beyond expectations ๐Ÿ™‚ always welcome after days of shoot.

our search for food led us past the burgoo restaurant in gateway and we were enticed by a photo of its shrimp and rib platter. we also ordered soup and an appetizer. the food was cold, dry and utterly disappointing. wasting good food would be sacrilegious but this was not in any way good. and despite being very expensive, we ate about 40% only and left the rest behind. it was rather heartbreaking (heartbreakingly expensive!) and frustrating, and we didnt even have the energy to bring this up with the management. apparently there are other accounts by friends who’ve had the same experience with burgoo restaurants. how can management continue with this kind of service? and the waiter had disturbingly pink lipstick on. i had nightmares afterwards. carlo also writes about this experience in his blog.

with a heavy heart, we trudged to the cinemas on the top floor. ย in a nutshell, depp’s performance was wonderful and i loved helena’s red queen. anne hathaway drowned in her plum lipstick and white hair. mia’s alice was a wonderful look, and the fashion was gorgeous. but the movie didnt have to be in 3d i think. tim burton is known to weave fantastic tales and paint gorgeous landscapes but when it was time to recreate an insane world and make it his home, this movie came as a letdown. the plot was too thin for such a crazy world. depp’s mad hatter was a surprise. beneath the layers of makeup and silk, he showed human emotion that transcended his character from being just a 2-dimensional cartoon to a living breathing creature. i miss the pink fur of disney’s cheshire cat but this version’s blue eyed wonder fascinates. this is this decade’s Hook and just like the spielberg pan, this confused and divided its audience.

after days of preparation and shoot, carlo and i sought to get a massage. after the movie, we headed for the one near his office in kamuning. an hour and a half later, we were renewed and ready to farm peas, white mellons and zombies again. love it ! cheers and have a good day.

the vessel

the vessel angelo tabije

i like this a lot. carlo’s brother, angelo, did this and it’s currently on exhibit at the kaida gallery in timog quezon city. dubbed the vessel, the painting depicts probably the last virgin in this fictional technoethnic tribe from daangbakal. or at least that’s what we call itย  ๐Ÿ™‚ย  we’re thrilled angelo is getting the attention now with this current series. a few months ago 3 of his works were sent to singapore for a show and were sold out on the first day.ย  below is his painting he sent to the metrobank art competition where it was judged finalist.ย  hopefully next year he’ll bag the grand prize. then maybe he can work on a 1-man show. the future is bright with himย  ๐Ÿ™‚
